MED ADVANTAGE HAS COMPLETED BUILDING A NATIONAL DATABANK
ORLANDO, Fla,--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1996--Med Advantage announced Wednesday
that it has completed building a national database which will assist Managed Care
Organizations (MCO) in meeting their accreditation process with groups such as The
National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the Joint Commission for Accreditation
of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission
(URAC).
Med Advantage is a Credentialing Verification Organization (CVO) and provides nationwide
credentialing service. The database which Med Advantage has compiled currently holds
over 700,000 providers and has over 4.3 million elements verified according to both
NCQA and JCAHO "Medical practitioners are the foundation of any MCO whether
it's a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or a form of a Preferred Provider Organization
(PPO) and credentialing (researching the professional background ) will always be
the cornerstone of the foundation," said John B. Witty, President of Med Advantage.
Be also stated "without credentialing, an MCO is not
protected from possible liability; knowledge of the provider's history is necessary
in today's litigious marketplace."
"We are extremely pleased to have completed what is considered to be one of
the few nationwide databases for which MCO's can query for verification of information
placed on a provider's application , such as education or board certification,"
said John C. Barrett, Vice President of Med Advantage. "saving a single database;
where a company can go for collective information, provides a necessary approach
that bridges the gap between managed care organizations and their providers."
Med Advantage is able to receive data electronically from a company on their providers
in the HMO or the PPO and populate an application. The application can be sent to
the provide, re in the network for updates and corrections, instead of sending out
a blank application. This process will allow for a much smoother credentialing process.
Med Advantage is currently in the process of receiving Accreditation from NCQA and
should receive notification some time later in 1996.
