MED ADVANTAGE ACQUIRES BLUE
CROSS BLUE SHIELD AGREEMENT
Orlando, FL., October 12, 1996 - Med Advantage announced today that it has contracted with
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Western New York and Blue Shield of Northeastern New York
as their credentialing outsourcing vendor. Both plans are operated by Blue Cross &
Blue Shield of Western New York. The plans cover the 8 county Western New York and 18
county Albany area regions.
"We are extremely pleased to be increasing the number of Blue Cross Blue Shield plans
we are working with and are very excited for the opportunity to work with these two
plans." said John C. Barrett, Vice President of Med Advantage. " We are bridging
the gap between our managed care organizations and our providers", Blue Cross &
Blue Shield Manager of Credentialing, Nancy Schoellkopf stated. "We ‘re excited
about our affiliation with Med Advantage. Quality is important to our HMO. We fully expect
our relationship with Med Advantage to support our ongoing National Committee for Quality
Assurance (NCQA) accreditation efforts."
Med Advantage will provide various credentialing services, including mailing a condensed
version of the application, receiving the information and primary source verification.
This process will allow for a simplified credentialing process.
Med Advantage is considered one of the largest Credentials Verification Organizations
(CVO) in the country. Med Advantage received its Certification from NCQA* in September of
this year. The database which Med Advantage has compiled currently holds over 750,000
providers and has over 4.3 million elements verified according to both NCQA and The Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
* The National Committee for Quality Assurance, located in Washington, D.C., is an
independent, non-profit organization that certifies credentials verification organizations
and accredits managed care organizations.
