MED ADVANTAGE ACQUIRES
OPTIONS MENTAL HEALTH AGREEMENT
Orlando, FL, February 17, 1997 - Med Advantage announced today that it has contracted with
OPTIONS Health Care, a leading managed behavioral health care company located in Norfolk,
VA, as their credentials outsourcing vendor. The contract calls for Med Advantage to
provide full operational credentialing services for their national network. Financial
details were not disclosed.
"We are extremely pleased to be associated with OPTIONS," said John C. Barrett,
Vice President of Med Advantage. "OPTIONS is aggressively interested in improving the
process in which the providers are credentialed." OPTIONS Executive Director,
National Network Management, Scott Young, stated "Med Advantage will assist us in
reaching national accreditation with the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)
by simplifying the credentialing process."
The process of credentialing/recredentialing the network will include mailing a
pre-populated version of the OPTIONS application, receiving the information and primary
source verification. The process will allow for a simplified credentialing process.
OPTIONS is one of the country’s leading managed behavioral health care organizations,
with national operations, including Puerto Rico. They provide programs and services for
over 5 million people.
Med Advantage is considered one of the largest Credentials Verification Organizations
(CVO) in the country. Med Advantage received its Certification as a CVO from NCQA* in
September of 1996. The database which Med Advantage has compiled currently holds over
825,000 providers and has over 4.3 million elements verified according to both NCQA and
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
* The National Committee for Quality Assurance, located in Washington, DC, is an
independent, non-profit organization that certifies credentials verification organizations
and accredits managed care organizations.
